You’re Engaged! Now What?
Narrowing Down a Wedding Day
First off, if you’re reading this and you have recently become engaged, congratulations! This is such an exciting time of your life and you should soak it in, enjoy it, and before you can even blink, your wedding day will be here!
Being engaged is such an exciting time for you, your fiance, and the whole family. While this is the case, you may also come to find out (and if you haven’t already, you will) this time in your life can be incredibly busy and stressful with little time to breathe.
You have to plan a whole event around your special day. The wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, the reception. Not only this, you have to plan every single detail, or at the very least, know what you want for your wedding so either your family or wedding planners can step in to help you.
So why do I tell you this and possibly begin to stress you out before you’ve even thought about planning your wedding?
I want you to enjoy your wedding, stress free, when the day arrives. That’s the goal.
Here is some good news and encouragement for you. If you are reading this, you’re already several steps ahead and you’re heading in the right direction. You’re looking at different vendors and venues and figuring out what you want the day to look like. You’re putting in the work, doing the research, and planning your day exactly how you want it!
So this all begs the questions, how do we begin to plan a wedding?
Here I will give you a small list of practical steps you can take to get some of the big details knocked out!
Step 1: The date.
Seems simple enough right? Figure out what day you and your partner want to get married! Do you want a spring wedding, a fall wedding? Here is something to think about while planning this.
Do you want the ceremony and(or) reception outdoors? This can be a pivotal factor on what time of the year your wedding should land. If you’re local to Charleston and the surrounding areas, you know how scorching hot summers can be, or even how cold the late winters become!
Once you have a general idea of what time of year you would like your wedding to be, narrow down a date that sounds special to you! Here are a few things to think about as you coordinate this.
Charleston weddings can sometimes be pricey depending on the venue. Have a nice venue already in mind, but it looks a bit out of budget? Look at days other than Friday and Saturday! Oftentimes you can find dates at wedding venues that are considerably cheaper on less common days to be booked. Days like Thursday or Sunday work particularly well, especially for guests who may have to travel, rather than an earlier weekday!
Another option to save some money on a nicer venue is to book in the offseason! The winter months here in Charleston typically will have a lot of availability from both venues and vendors alike, if you don’t mind a winter wedding, give this a try and see what you can find!
Hopefully this helps you narrow down a day for your wedding! Make sure to find a time of year that you truly enjoy, and a day of the week that works great for you! After all, the day is a celebration of you and your fiance coming together to be wed, feel free knowing the fact that the day is yours, and that you can create it exactly how you all envision it!
